Now that Miss Savannah is 4 months, she has acquired a lot of nicknames. Just to name a few: Sis, Sister, Savannah Banana, Fanina, Sabana, High Maintenance, and Daddy calls her Petunia Jane or PJ for short. Her personality is really coming through and we are getting on more of a predictable routine. We started out the month on the same flow as 3 months, then last week she hit the 4 month sleep regression or as I like to call it, a growth spurt! She had been sleeping through the night to waking up again. Just when I was beginning to get more sleep! This lasted a few days and now she has pushed her bed time back to 7 and is sleeping until around 6:30. Amazing! She is taking her morning nap around 8-8:15 so this one is not in her car seat believe it or not! We are in day 3 of this new schedule so I hope it keeps up.

She is still eating and growing really well! She loves to nurse and it is still going good. At her 4 month check up we discussed holding off on starting solids until closer to 6 months because she is satisfied with milk. Her feeding times are becoming shorter so it's easy to feed her. She is not a fan of the nursing cover but this is a must since we are on the go a lot and I hardly ever have a bottle. She also got her shots and some prescription cream for her eczema.

She is staying awake longer so she is starting to play with her baby toys and we even brought out the excersaucer. I can't believe she is old enough for it already! Her favorite activity is still her piano mat. She loves putting her fingers in her mouth so maybe we are entering the teething stage, yikes!

Savannah had her first trip to Auburn this month. We had some friends from Arkansas down for the AU vs. Ark game. The Friday before the game, the girls met up with Keith and Rader at AU club after they played golf. They had baby tiger cubs and the AU cheerleaders there. It was such a fun day! Too bad Auburn played awful but we had a great time nonetheless.
My baby is no longer a newborn and is now an infant. Time needs to slow down! She is awake more now and exploring the world around her which a lot of the time is big bro in her face! She loves being outside and I'm so looking forward to fall so we can be outside more. Her favorite activity during her wake time is her play mat that has a piano for her feet to play and toys that hang down. She will bat the toys and even grip them sometimes. She hates tummy time!! She lasts maybe 3 minutes at a time. I know it's important for her to do it so she can learn to roll over but I can't stand to hear her cry. She is holding her head up now and likes to stand up in our lap when we hold her. She is eating every 2.5-3 hours during the day and has her "witching hour" between 5-6. She will take a cat nap around 6 so this is when I try and get dinner started. It's hard for us to eat out at this age because of her fussy period. I think it's because her late afternoon isn't quite long enough so she is overly tired. She has made 8:00 her bedtime and will wake up around 4-5, eat, and wake up between 7:30-8. A few nights she has made it to 6-7 but nothing consistent yet. She is breaking out of her swaddle at night so this is a big reason for her waking up. I'm not sure how much longer we are going to swaddle because of this but I was hoping to hold out until she can sleep on her tummy. Poor thing is having skin issues so I'm hoping that by cutting out dairy in my diet, we will see some changes. Her belly laughs will just melt your heart! We are so in love with our baby girl!!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-62256559130613622502012-08-18T07:01:00.001-07:002012-08-18T07:06:50.558-07:00Savannah- 2 MonthsWeight: 11.2 lbs (75%)

Savannah is 2 months old already! It's hard to remember what life was like before our little girl. She is coming more and more alert everyday. I was looking forward to the sweet baby coos and she started doing them around 6 weeks. She is a strong little thing! When I'm burping her she pushes off my legs and tries to stand up! She also has good head control to be so small. We did hit a bump in the road with nursing when I started showing signs of thrush. I was having some pain in my breast and some other symptoms and I knew something was up. She didn't have any signs of it but we went ahead and treated her with an oral medicine to prevent us from passing it back and forth. I had to take a prescription pill for 2 weeks and use a topical treatment after every feeding plus give her meds after. This got old really fast since she eats 8-10 times a day! We are all better now and I pray it will never come back. I'm taking a probiotic now and that seems to be helping. I thought by eating a lot of greek yogurt that it would help but it has sugar in it and that can make it worse. She is eating great and gaining really well so this Mama is pleased. I sometimes have to pump in the morning since I am full from going longer stretches at night so she will get one bottle a day or I freeze it. She isn't a big fan of the bottle and I have yet to find a paci that she will take. It's so crazy that I'm trying to take Sawyer's paci away and trying everything to get her to take one when she gets fussy from being tired!
I haven't tried to put her on any type of schedule yet so just seeing how she does on her own with eat, play, sleep cycle. We do have a good bedtime routine going and it seems to be working out well. She will cluster feed from 5-8 and throw in a little cat nap in there then it's bath time, nurse, then swaddle. She fights the swaddle sometimes but if we don't she will wake herself up with the startle reflex. She is sleeping in the bassinet in our room too. She goes down around 8 and will wake up between 2-3 to eat, back down until 6-7, eat, then wake up around 9. After her 6 or 7 feeding she will snuggle beside me and go back to sleep. This is my favorite time of day. I just stare at her and take in every moment. That is until big bro wakes up and I have to leave her there while I feed him breakfast and we watch cartoons. I love our mornings! She is such a sweet girl and we love her more and more everyday!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-36449760412285443992012-07-29T06:05:00.001-07:002012-08-02T14:20:37.457-07:00Savannah- 1 MonthHere is a recap of Savannah's first month.

After being cleared of the jaundice and heart murmur I felt like we could actually begin to settle in as a family of four. I think I had prepared myself for the worst since Sawyer is 2 and I knew how time is not your own with a newborn. Now this is crazy for me to say but I was also anxious because Sawyer was a really good baby that didn't have colic and started sleeping through the night around 6 weeks. I thought that there was no way we could have two babies like that! Well I was proved wrong. She is such a good baby. She would eat every three hours which was actually better than Sawyer who ate every two in the beginning. I'm already comparing, I need to stop but you just can't help it! She took to nursing really well and was doing great because she was gaining well and was satisfied. I must say too that things have been different the second time around with me as far as bf goes. With Sawyer I would religiously watch the clock so he ate 20 minutes on each side and i would keep a log of how many wet an dirty diapers. That vicious cycle done every two hours sent me over the edge and honestly took away some of the enjoyment of just feeding a sweet baby. With Savannah, I haven't written down the first thing or looked at a clock. I feed her on demand and let her finish one side and offer the other until she's full. I feed her lying down at night which makes it easier for me to relax and when she's done I gently place her back in the bassinet. She is a loud sleeper when she first falls asleep so the sound machine helps to drown the noise. She was back to her birth weight by two weeks and then gained another 17 oz in two weeks which impressed the lactation nurse since the average is 12. Praise God nursing is going better the second time! About once a day she has to cry really hard to wear herself out but after that she will sleep a good stretch. It seems like the longest 3 minutes of your life! Nothing soothes her when she gets this worked up so we had to learn to just let her fuss for a few minutes.
At her two week check up we had to get her treated for a clogged tear duct. Her eye looked terrible and she could barely open her eye. Some prescription eye drops cleared it up in a few days.

My recovery had its ups and downs. The pain and soreness was bearable because I stayed on top of it with Motrin. The Percocets they gave me made me so nauseous so I quit taking them once I got home from the hospital. Scary that they send a baby home from the hospital with a mom taking narcotics! I guess they assume you have help. I was able to handle the feedings and diaper changes by myself at night. It never failed that I would go downstairs and forget something upstairs. After a few days home I really wasn't in any pain. This may seem like a good thing but I was acting like I didn't have major abdominal surgery the week before. At my two week check up I told the doctor that I was still passing large clots. This concerned her so she did an US of my uterus and she saw several large clots. She told me that I had to be better at getting off my feet and taking care of myself. My Mom and Keith were very concerned and stepped it up even more with helping out. When you have two small kids its hard to take care of yourself!

We took Savannah to the lake for the first time at almost three weeks which happened to be July 4th. Mama needed a change of scenery!! It was a nightmare packing for two kids and myself. It took us four hours to leave the house! My Mom was the biggest help and I couldn't have done it without her since Keith was out of town for work. The Scott's have a crib and a bed in the same room so it was nice for us to stay there. That week Sawyer started swimming so good, in a life jacket of course!! Honey taught him to blow bubbles with his mouth and kick his feet. He would swim to the steps all by himself!

Keith and I got to celebrate his 31st Birthday with just the two of us. Honey and Papa D babysat both kids while we had a delicious dinner at Five. It was a much needed date night! I was sad to dump the 5 ounces I pumped but I thoroughly enjoyed some rose champagne!

I can honestly say that I would not have been able to get through the first month without our "village". Keith was the biggest help with Sawyer because I couldn't pick him up and I was feeding Sissy most of the time. I could put my Mom on payroll since she has done so much for us. She cooked so many delicious meals and cleaned our house from top to bottom. Sometimes just knowing she was there gave me such comfort. There is nothing like your Mama! Cindy was also a tremendous help. She would take Sawyer to do special things and they even took him to the lake the weekend we came home so we could transition with Savannah. We had meals brought to us by friends and family as well. We were so grateful for a good meal those first few hectic weeks!

The surgery and recovery went smooth and even better than Sawyer's which I didn't think was possible. They had me up on my feet and walking to the bathroom just 4 hours after having her! I think getting up sooner combined with it being the second time around made the recovery easier. Also, I didn't have the morphine pump so I wasn't drugged up. The Percocet had the opposite effect on me and made me feel wired. On the second night, I was so exhausted from having a day full of visitors so I knew I had to rest while I could but I was wide awake. So, the nurse gave me a small dose of ambien to help me get to sleep. However, that meant taking Savannah to the nursery which I didn't want to do at first but I decided that I should take advantage of the help and my milk wasn't in yet so I knew it was safe to take it. I was definitely being more practical the second time around! I felt great the next morning. I was having some issues getting her to latch on my left side and I was feeling engorged so I used my hand held pump to get some relief and it turns out my milk came in on Thursday! I thought it was colostrum but the lactation nurse said, "That's milk honey!". Turns out Miss Savannah was an efficient eater. Keith even gave her her first bottle. Down side to this was hand washing that stupid pump at least 10 times over the next 2 days. We had great nurses and I even wanted to take Mrs. Gina home with us. She became like family.
On Friday morning, I was discharged by my Doctor and we were waiting on the pediatrician to make his rounds before he would discharge her. That's when everything started to come unraveled. The nurse came in to do Savannah's stats and noticed she was breathing heavy and she was going to make a note to tell the doctor. Well, not even a minute later Dr. Simpson came in for his exam. He must have listened to her heart for over a minute and I noticed him looking at his watch. He then told us that he wasn't concerned about her breathing but he did hear a slight murmur and wanted us to have it checked by a Cardiologist before we left the hospital. He was very honest and told us three possibilities it could be so we knew what to expect. Well, in my broken hormonal state, I heard the first thing he said which was the worst and I shut down from there. As soon as he left the room I lost it. It was day 3 so my hormones were so out of whack but thank goodness Keith was listening well so he could console me. Deep down I knew he was upset too but he had to be strong for me. Initially, we were going to have to put her in an isolate that they use in the NICU to transport her there to do the test. That alone upset me, it's so sad to see babies in those. There they would do an US of her heart and send the results to the Pediatric Cardiologist at UAB. Keith works in hospitals so he knew this would be a lengthy process so we got comfortable and expected to be there for a while. We prayed and prayed and God was so faithful and he answered so many prayers that day. The nurse came in at 12 to take us to do the test which we ended up getting to do in the nursery on our floor. Keith and I got to be there with her throughout the whole process. We got the results about an hour and a half later. The murmur was small and is expected to be self corrective in a few months. Praise God! We don't have to see a Specialist for a follow up, it is just going to be monitored by her Pediatrician. Well, we still weren't in the clear yet because her blood work showed that she was jaundice and we would have to go to the Doctor's office the next day to do another heel prick. It was 13.5 when we left the hospital. The next day it was up to 14.5 and since it had gone up, we would have to come back on Sunday to get it checked again. Luckily, it went down to 13.7 so we didn't have to go back for more blood work and we didnt need to have any special treatments to make it go away. Despite being jaundice, she was still eating and gaining weight. She lost down from her birth weight of 8.5 to 7.9 on Thursday. On Friday at discharge, she was at 7.10, 7.12 on Saturday, 7.14 on Sunday, and up to 8lbs on 6/19 (1 week old). At her two week check up she weighed 8.6 so the Doctor was very pleased that she was back to her birth weight. This also meant that I could start letting her wake me up to eat at night. She had her first 4 hour stretch at night that Thursday and has continued to do so since then. She is such a sweet and cuddly baby and we are so blessed and grateful for a healthy baby. It was a very humbling experience to say the least and it made us realize how fortunate we are that she got good results from bad news to start with. God was with us through every step and we praise him for that.
Where was Sawyer during all of the excitement? Getting spoiled by his Grandparents and having special time at Chuck E Cheese with Keith. It was very hard knowing I couldn't take care of him and do all of our normal stuff but it was a good feeling knowing he was taken care of. When he came to visit us in the Hospital he pretty much ignored her and didn't really understand she was coming come with us :). He kept us laughing when we got home. He was fascinated by breast feeding and pumping. Every time she eats he says she's eating lunch! He also tried to put the breast shield of the pump up his shirt. He though that the microwave steam bags that you use to sterilize the pump parts was popcorn. So funny!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-62790296329527986792012-06-24T10:25:00.001-07:002012-06-24T16:25:35.284-07:00We Welcome With LoveSavannah Marie Scott
She was born on Tuesday, June 12th at 8:22 am weighing 8 lbs 5 oz and was 20.5 in.

I was admitted the night before after having what I thought was back labor. Long story short, we had just dropped off Sawyer with Keith's parents and were headed to a movie. All of a sudden my car starts doing crazy things. All of the gauges go off, the wipers quit working, and when we got to a stop light the car just shuts off!!! This kind family helped us wheel it into a church parking lot. The man asked if I could steer it while they pushed not knowing I was as big as a whale and giving birth the next day. So I did, then I panicked when we started heading down hill, no power steering mind you, and in to on coming traffic. Did I mention it looked like Armageddon outside?? We called the roadside assistance number and they sent a tow truck but it was going to be 45 minutes. About ten minutes into waiting, I started having some indescribable back pain and my stomach was hard as a rock. I tried not to worry but then I couldn't hold back the tears it hurt so bad. In a panic, we call Dick who came to wait on the tow truck so we could grab our bags at home and head to the hospital. Like the lightning that was coming down all around us, they grabbed both car seats and threw them in Dick's car. I felt terrible that he had to wait there in the pouring rain in a car that wouldn't start!
We made it to the hospital around 8 and by 9 I was being monitored. Turns out I was contracting but not enough to put me in active labor. The nurse thought the back pain was from her hitting a nerve and combined with the adrenaline it made sense. They ended up letting us stay the night since we had to be there at 5:15 for the scheduled c-section. They gave me an ambien to take so I could relax and get some rest. That was my first time taking it and it was awesome! I have such a difficult time falling asleep and I knew I wouldn't be able to with the anticipation of the birth the next day.
Keith and I both got some rest so we had our game faces on when it was time for our early wake up call to prep for the surgery. Our families got there around 6:30 to pray for us and see us off before we headed back to surgery. We were supposed to be #2 in line but they had an emergency so we were pushed back to be the #3 case that morning. All in all, everything went smooth during the csec. I got really nauseous there at the beginning but the CRNA gave me a quick dose of Zofran and it did wonders. It took them a little longer to get through the scar tissue from Sawyer's csec so that was uncomfortable. All I wanted to hear was a screaming baby and that is what happened at 8:22 when she was born. She had a head full of dark hair and had the biggest cheeks I had ever seen!! Her apgar scores were 8 & 9 and after she passed her other tests, they handed her to Keith. It was love at first sight. I got to hold her after they were done putting Humpty Dumpty together again :). We were greeted by family when we got back to our room who couldn't believe her dark hair. After they left, my good friend, Lindsey Culver, who happens to be a very talented photographer captured some intimate pictures of the three of us as we bonded and I nursed her for the first time. Words can't describe these moments so I'm glad she got them in pictures to have forever. I wasn't "out of it" from all the drugs since I was just on Tordol and still very numb from the waist down from the spinal block.
I hope to update more soon of our hospital stay and first two weeks at home.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-58339737414147388132012-06-21T00:06:00.001-07:002012-06-21T00:06:30.396-07:00Wordless Wednesday<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-41539100994450661392012-06-08T07:29:00.001-07:002012-06-08T17:56:30.379-07:00Almost time!This week's 38 week check up had no new news. Still measuring ahead,my cervix is closed, not thinned out, and her head is floating. All of these indicate that she is not showing signs of coming on her own and my Dr. won't let me to go past 39 weeks if I was going to have a vbac. I'm really ok with our decision to go ahead with the csec because it seems to be the safest way for both of us and I really didn't want to labor and push and then wind up having a csec. We also discussed trying a different approach to pain management. I had a good experience with my csec with Sawyer but the one downfall was the way I felt on morphine right after surgery. I really was so out of it and don't remember a lot. We are going to try tordol which is a strong enough pain killer without the grogginess of morphine. The morphine will be on hand if I need it but hopefully I won't. My cousin who had a csec last month went this route and had a good experience. I'm not looking forward to the hormone roller coaster ride those first few weeks..Thankfully we have a great support system. Sawyer will be in good hands with his grandparents but I know I will miss him terribly. We can't wait to meet our baby girl on Tuesday, June 12!!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-61544824134009652762012-05-31T14:10:00.001-07:002012-05-31T14:17:20.201-07:0037 weeks and Ready!Well we are but I'm not sure if she is ready. At my 37 week appointment they did a growth US and her head is measuring 40 weeks and her estimated weight is 7 lbs 11 oz. I still have plenty of fluid so that was good news. The Dr. didn't do an exam to check for progress since we scheduled the csec and he could feel her when he touched my stomach and said she could not fit through my pelvis. My fundal height was 40 weeks. Since I'm as big as a 40 week pregnant person then why can't she come?? So, on one hand I'm glad the guessing game of having a
vbac is over, but I still wonder if I will make it to 6/12 (39 weeks). I've been having all kinds of symptoms that I never had with Sawyer but that could just be because this is my second pregnancy. I know I need to be patient but I'm just ready for her to be in my arms and not in my belly. I really don't think that Sawyer is prepared for her arrival though because he freaked out when a baby, cartoon mind you, was crying and he jumped in my lap and was so uneasy until she stopped. Oh dear, it's going to be a big adjustment for him. I'm actually not miserable feeling just anxious to meet her. Everything is done except for getting our carpets needing to be cleaned. Ahhh, so close! <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-49530309221010517862012-05-28T06:58:00.001-07:002012-05-28T07:07:11.700-07:00Beach Trip 2012In early May we went on our 2nd annual Scott Beach Trip to Destin. We are trying to take advantage of going in May while we can since kids are still in school which makes for less crowds at the beach and restaurants. Dick found a great kid friendly place for Sawyer
that had a nice playground and swings and a huge pool. We were blessed with great weather and had some delicious seafood. We went to our favorite spots Harbor Docks, which we discovered has an awesome breakfast, and Louis Louis. Kenzie cooked a shrimp boil at the condo one night and it was so good. It's sad to think that this will probably be our last beach trip until next year since we are about to have our lives turned upside down!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-2684457109160908982012-05-22T13:15:00.001-07:002012-05-22T13:49:06.989-07:00Big girl!?Oh dear. We make them big around here apparently. I had my 36 week check up today which means the beginning of weekly exams to check for any progress. Today, my cervix is still closed which on one hand, kind of surprised me because of all the pressure and questionable feelings I've been having but then again I'm only 36 weeks. I asked Dr. Damrich if he could feel my stomach to get an estimate of her weight. He felt from top to bottom and said that they compare a loaf of bread to being 7 lbs and I'm bigger than that! Ahhh! I guess we will know a little more next week when they do an US. Sooo, it seems like the writing is on the wall for a repeat c-section which I'm fine with if she is going to be big. My worst fear would be to try and labor then wind up with a csec. I'm waiting to hear back from the lady who schedules surgery but for now, we discussed 6/12/12. Now my babies will be born on 4/12 and 6/12. We'll see if it all works out that way!Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-2493185723407138302012-05-18T07:34:00.001-07:002012-05-18T07:36:05.383-07:00Baby Savannah UpdateThings are moving right along at 35 1/2 weeks! I missed my 34 week appointment because we were out of town so I went at 35 weeks. Everything is still going good. My BP was 108/60 which is where it's always been, I've gained 32 lbs, and I forgot to ask what my iron was since they checked it that day. I'm on a prenatal vitamin and an iron supplement and still stay around 10. Anything above 12 is ideal. I met with Dr. McKee since my doctor is still on maternity leave. He is one of my favorites there . He was glad to see that I wasn't swollen yet and he asked me if Keith and I were big babies since Sawyer was 9 lbs at 39 weeks. I said no and that we were 6 and 7 lbs. He did my measurements and she was measuring right at 35 weeks which was a different story from the past two visits when she was measuring 2 weeks ahead. I told him the last 2 days that she hadn't been moving a lot like she had been so he ordered a non-stress test and an US to check fluid levels. I told him I wasn't too concerned because she had moved all morning but he wanted to be safe. Both checked out fine and her head was so low that she couldn't even get a shot of her face! This made me feel good because Sawyer never dropped or engaged in my pelvis because of his size. Who knows if she will stay this way so we will see. They are going to do another US at 37 weeks to get a better estimate of her weight to see if a VBAC is even an option. I go back on Tuesday and they will do the Group B Strep Test and check for any progress, eek! I can't believe we are down to weekly visits already!

Two weeks ago some friends and family threw us a Sprinkle at Cocina Superior. It was such a fun night and we received so many nice things for Savannah. Her nursery is all set up except a rug. Who knew there were so many shades of pink! All I have left to do is wash her newborn clothes and pack our bags for the hospital. Last week I pulled out her infant seat and I forgot how heavy they are! Keith said he would just install the car seat when we get to the hospital because he will have "plenty" of time. Um, those are the LAST words a nesting Mama wants to hear. I wanted it done ASAP! I'm driving everyone crazy!

*This was posted from my iPhone because I can't seem to figure out the new Blogger format on my computer. That explains the lack of pictures from the sprinkle!
This past weekend we met the Scott's to go see Thomas the Train at the Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera. We had never been there before and it was really neat! Sawyer is really into trains these days so this was a great age to take him. There were lots of activites for the kids to do before the train ride. There was a petting zoo, bubble station, and a bouncy house. The train ride was about 20 minutes which for his age was great. We weren't prepared to ride backwards back to the station so we got a good laugh out of that!! Thanks Honey and Papa D for taking us to see Thomas!Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-24478792267430552122012-04-18T19:09:00.000-07:002012-04-18T19:09:30.173-07:00Sawyer's 2nd Birthday Party
We celebrated Sawyer's 2nd Birthday at the local Hoover Fire Station that happens to have a great playground and pavilion attached to it. We were blessed with beautiful weather and he had a great time celebrating with all of his friends and family. The kids played for a while on the playground and then the Fire Station Lieutenant gave us an up close look at the big ladder truck and the kids even got to climb in and explore. It made for some great photo ops!

We went to three Easter Egg Hunts and attended our Church's awesome Easter Service on Sunday followed by two family visits in one day. Whew, we are still trying to catch up on rest. Not to mention that we had Sawyer's 2nd Birthday Party too. Another post on that to come later!

Last weekend we went to an Easter Egg Hunt at Sawyer's Preschool. It was complete with a bouncy house, Egg Hunt, face paint (which he wouldn't sit still long enough to do), and some good food.

The next afternoon we went to the Egg Hunt at Shades Crest Baptist. They had train rides, balloon animals, and another Egg Hunt.

Sawyer's was Thomas the Train, it is so cute and perfect for him since he eats breakfast watching cartoons most mornings. She even had them wrapped so nice like she did when I grew up.

Next, we headed to the Scott's for more family time and for Keith to watch the Masters. Go Bubba! Sawyer had fun playing golf and throwing the ball to Kaylee. He is obsessed with that dog and she is so sweet to her. Dick cooked some delicious hamburgers for everyone. We loved being outside most of the beautiful day!

So, since Sawyer's MDO was closed the week of Spring Break we decided to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather with a trip to the Lake for a few days followed by a long weekend in Destin.

Playing with a water gun for the first time.

The Scott's got a new kayak and they were a hit! Keith and Kenzie went on several long rides around the slu and surrounding areas. Too bad Big Mama couldn't join in on the fun!

One afternoon we packed a picnic lunch and anchored on an island for some water time. Keith and Sawyer enjoyed skipping rocks. The water was cold but there was no stopping Sawyer from getting in.

He also loved swimming on the steps with Honey. He is not afraid of the water at all which is very scary as a parent!

That Thursday, we went down to Blue Mountain Beach which is just outside of Destin. And let me just say that it will definitely spoil you. Not a lot of traffic, no high rise condos, natural sand dunes, and amazing restaurants. It is also just a 10 minute car ride to Baytown Wharf and all the other activities in Destin. We went with another family, the Choat's. Will was Keith's Fraternity Brother and I went to High School with Morgan. They have a precious little boy, Carter, who just turned 2. To top it off, Morgan is pregnant too so we have a lot in common with this family! As soon as we got there on Thursday afternoon we went to the heated pool which was like a giant bath tub. The boys had a blast!

Friday morning the guys played golf so we took the boys back to the pool for a couple of hours. When we went in for lunch, I was putting something in the oven for Sawyer to eat but he fell asleep sitting straight up on the couch and slept for 3 hours! He was wiped. That night, which was my Birthday, we went to Louis Louis for dinner. It is a restaurant that is owned by the Red Bar so we wanted to check it out. It was sooo good! Imagine having the same menu as Red Bar (I got the Chicken of course), no wait to eat, not loud, and a clean bathroom. It did help that we went to dinner at 6:00 since we had small kids. After dinner, we went to Baytown Wharf for some fun. Sawyer rode the carousel and ate the biggest Popsicle he had ever seen! It was a great way to celebrate my 29th Birthday.

Saturday morning we started out with breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe in Grayton Beach. It disappoint either and the boys were happily entertained with the Ipad! The rest of the day was spent on the beach. Sawyer wasn't a big fan of the sand at first and it took him a minute to warm up to it. Since I had nap duty on Friday, it was Keith's turn so I got a solid 2-3 hours of precious, uninterrupted beach time by.my.self. It was amazing! That doesn't happen too often these days so I enjoyed every minute of it. That night we ate a local place for sushi and steak. It was a great way to end such a fun trip. It was so sad to leave but only got us excited for our beach trip in May with the Scott's. We are trying to get all of our trips in now because once Sissy gets here I have a feeling we won't be going many places!

My friend Laura's Mom is going to be making the curtains and crib sheet. I opted to not do bumpers this go round just to be extra safe so the curtains are going to be a little busy. I had to coordinate the colors with our current brown glider so I am going with pink, taupe, and brown.
He is learning new things everyday and you never know what will come out of his mouth.
Here are a some things that he is up to these days:

Weighs 31 lbs

Size 5 Diaper

Still very attached to paci and binky but we are limiting them to only bedtime, naptime, and car rides.

His favorite shows are Super Why, Barney, Sesame Street, Caillou, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Knows most of the letters in the alphabet thanks to the foam letters that stick to the bath tub, puzzles, and I assume Super Why!

Can count to 10. Funny story-I knew he could count to maybe 5 but the other night Keith was wrestling with him and held him and did pretend bench press and started counting out loud. Well, Sawyer chimed in around 6 and said 7,8,9,10. I was so surprised! I have no idea how he learned them. The only place I can think of is MDO but I didn't think they taught them things. He is such a sponge and you can tell him something once and he remembers.

Meal times are a hit or miss, especially lunch. I am trying to not get frustrated and just let him tell me when he's hungry. He used to eat any veggie when he was a baby but now, not so much. I stress so much about him eating a "balanced" diet but then find myself settling on things like turkey hot dogs and chicken nuggets just to get him to eat. Soooo frustrating. I really think it's more of a control thing though.

Is showing signs of being a strong willed child and has definitely starting throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way.

Goes to sleep around 7:00-7:30 and sleeps until around 7:15.

Considering moving him to a "big boy" bed. We are so back and forth on keeping him in his crib or moving on up but I think we have decided on buying him a full size bed (with rails) and use the nursery furniture for Savannah. It is becoming impossible to bend over to get him in and out of the crib because of how low it is and Keith nearly thew his back out when he changed his crib sheet. Maybe that's because he is 30. He he!

Loves to read his favorite 4 books before bed every night. He has already memorized the words in most of them so maybe we should switch them up :).

Takes one nap that is normally 2-3 hours.

He is in a clingy stage and wants to be held all the time and rocked to sleep. While I love cuddling, it is becoming very difficult with the ever expanding belly.

Is obsessed with the You Tube app on my iphone so he can watch the Wiggles, Barney, and Elmo. I am SO guilty of giving it to him to keep him entertained while in restaurants or in the stroller. Oops!

*****Update! 2/18/12: Sawyer went #1 and #2 in the potty today!! Funny story actually. A couple of weeks ago my Mom gave me a potty for him to use just to introduce it to him. After babysitting him last Saturday night she kept saying how he is really interested in the potty and he told her he had on a stinky diaper and to go change him. He has been showing signs for a couple of weeks now but it has really been more me not wanting to fool with it because I have heard horror stories about potty training boys and he is pretty young. Not to mention, I have NO idea what I am doing. We started just putting him on his potty before his bath but he never went but still liked to sit on it naked ;). Well today, after his bath, Keith was using the bathroom and since he wanted to be like Daddy, he sat on his potty and was trying so hard to pee that he pooped! TMI sorry. Keith called me because I was on my way to Emme's Party and I was almost in tears I was laughing so hard! I was telling a lot of my family the story and they really encouraged me to just give it a try and not to stress about it. So, I made a trip to Target to get some M&Ms, a Sesame Street Potty Seat because the his potty is a little small and to see which one he likes better, pull ups, and some flushable wipes. My biggest question is when to put him in underwear. Do I start with pull ups and then transition? I am going to take baby steps and just put him on the potty every 2 hours and if he goes he goes and if not no M&M. In the meantime I am going to do some research and see what I need to do about underwear and how to teach him to hold it. I really can't believe this is happening and I am trying to not have expectations. So here we go...
Up until now, he has only suffered from ear infections which I am thankful for even though they are no fun. Well, when he woke up from his nap on Wednesday he was on fire! I took his temp and it was 103.5. I freaked out and called the nurse because I don't even remember the last time he had one so I didn't know if I should bring him in. She told me to give him Motrin and Tylenol and to call back in the morning if he still had a fever. At this point, I thought it was just a fever virus because he had no other symptoms. Later that night he started drooling really bad which I thought was odd. So, the next day he still had a fever so I took him in. The strep and flu tests were negative, thank goodness, but his throat was very red and he had puss pockets on his tonsils. At this point, his temp was 104.5!! He felt tortured at the doctor after they swabbed his nose, throat, and pricked his finger. She ended up putting him on an antibiotic because his white blood cell count was high. We went back in today for a recheck and he is doing a LOT better. His wbc went from 18-12 and she was very pleased. Of course, all of this happens when Keith was out of town for work. He was so worried about him and was texting and calling me constantly. He held him so long when he got home last night. He had listened to the St. Jude commercials on the way home from Mobile and I think they really got to him. ;(

Today I went for my 22 week check up with Dr. Ellis. Everything went well and I hope she didn't think I was crazy when I pulled out the list of questions on my iphone. I told her about Sawyer being sick so she wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic in case I started feeling bad. We also discussed my sciatic nerve and hip pain I'm having that is causing numbess in my legs. She mentioned having a prenatal massage and coincidentally Keith booked me one for today so yippee!! The only relief I can get for the dry/bloody nose is saline spray. My iron was borderline but nothing to worry about. I gained 3 lbs since last month which makes 13 total. Her heartbeat was strong (140s) and she could even hear the difference between the heart beat and the blood going through the veins. So cool! I am measuring 23 weeks so almost on track. Next month is the Diabetes screening so I hope I pass!
We have been discussing for a few months about Sawyer starting Mother's Day Out. The main reason we wanted to start now is to have him enrolled somewhere when Savannah comes and be used to going on a regular basis. However, Savannah is due in June and most places don't have a Summer program and they follow the same calendar that the School disrtict does where they are located. After a lot of research, we think we found the best place for him to start Mother's Day Out and they have been doing a Summer Camp every year for the past 5 years so I am praying they will continue this Summer. We will know for sure in a month but if they don't, I have another church lined up but it is 3 days a week and this one is 2.

I got really emotional after taking the tour because I felt guilty for sending him to school and I knew it was just the beginning of him growing up to be a "big boy". The first day came and both his teachers said that he had a great first day with only a few tears. I really didn't think he would cry but for just a few minutes after I left but I guess he wasn't used to being in that type setting for 4 hours. The next time he went, they said that he did great and he had no tears. They couldn't believe it was only his second day. We are in week 3 now and he still has his moments of being clingy when I drop him off but is so happy when I come to pick him up.

What have I been doing while he goes to MDO? Well the first week it worked out good because I had to go to the Doctor because I had pink eye (random) and the next time, I was at the car place for over an hour getting my brakes fixed. I even had to have a friend pick me up because it was taking so long. Both of which would have been difficult if I had Sawyer with me. I plan to schedule my OB visits and go to the gym on days he is at MDO so we will see how long that lasts ;). Overall, it has been the best decision and I am so proud of how he is doing. He is learning to share with others, listen to adults other than Keith and I, do fun crafts and most importantly, having fun. I hope that he can continue going here until he starts Kindergarten.
We are on cloud 9 and are so thankful for this blessing. Keith and I were SO nervous all morning and it only got worse when we were in the waiting room for the ultrasound. It was like it was our first time or something! When we walked in to the room, the US tech asked us if we wanted to know the gender and we said yes. As soon as we saw the baby on the screen, we couldn't believe how much she had grown since 10 weeks. The first thing she did was to try and get an underneath shot to determine the gender. I immediately thought girl because I didn't see any boy parts and it turns out I was right! The tech was more than positive that it was a girl.
Keith squeezed my hand so hard and I started tearing up. We just couldn't believe it! I had a deep down feeling it was a girl but it was mainly based on how different my symptoms had been from my pregnancy with Sawyer. We got to see the four chambers in her heart, arms and legs, bladder and kidneys, brain, spine, and that she has a 3 vein cord. So far, everything is developing normally. When we met with our Doctor, she told us that I have an anterior placenta which means it is in the front of my uterus so I won't be feeling the really strong kicks until after 20 weeks. I have, however, been feeling her move everyday since the beginning of week 17 but it has been more wave like movements than pops. My heart still flutters every time I feel her. This is by far my favorite part of being pregnant.
We knew we wanted to trick them so Keith came up with the perfect idea. The way we told them with Sawyer was pulling out an Auburn football jersey. So, he came up with pulling out the same jersey only to make them think it was a boy. Then he said that it was Sawyer's and that the adorable polk a dot Auburn dress he pulled out next was this baby's. Their faces were priceless!!! They were so mad that we tricked them but of course got over it quickly when they realized that we are going to have a sweet baby girl in the family. It was such a great day filled with all kinds of emotions.

As for her name, it will be Savannah Marie Scott. This name has been in the works even before we decided to have children. Savannah, GA was were we spent our first wedding anniversary and it is one of our favorite places to visit. It was also going to be Sawyer's name if he would have been a girl. Marie is both mine and my Mom's middle name. And let's face it, how cute does Sawyer and Savannah sound together?? When we ask Sawyer to say Savannah he says, "Sha nay na". Its the cutest.thing.ever.

Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-76976186484814688112012-01-12T19:13:00.000-08:002012-01-12T19:13:04.905-08:00Needed a good laugh!In anticipation of the gender ultrasound on Monday, my mind has been back and forth of trying to guess what we are having. Sweet vs. Salty, High vs. Low, Heartbeart, etc. This however is NOT one of the ways I was guessing! Warning: It's vulgar but will make you pee in your pants its that funny!!!!
I don't know why but it has been all fireflies and fairy tales about having another child until recently. You really do forget what it is like to have a newborn after a while and now it is all coming back. Now, I have to tread those waters with a 2 year old! Why am I freaking out now? I guess it is my body's way of preparing me for life with two and its also the pregnancy journey. The first weeks you are consumed with hearing the heartbeat, then its about the next appointment when you see how he/she has grown, etc. Well, I am at the point where I am anticipating feeling the baby move and finding out the gender and since I have a little time in between, I picked up something else to think/worry about. So I came across an article that made me smile because it was so true! It is about a new mother's journey through breastfeeding and it hit home because that is one of the things I'm worried about, imagine that. How the heck am I going to nurse a nb for lets say average 35-40 min every 2-3 hours, at all hours mind you, with a toddler who needs me too? Well I know the hard part won't last forever but I am not naive enough to think its a cake walk. Maybe I should listen to this quote, "Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, it won't get you anywhere." So true.

Here is the article from Pregnant Chicken:

So as you may or may not have read in my first birth story, my son was handed to me just minutes after being born and I was asked if I wanted to try breastfeeding. Okay, (and to quote Bon Jovi) I'll give it a shot. Well, what do you know, it kind of worked! He knew exactly what to do just like the baby that instantly started nursing on an oblivious Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon. What was I so worried about?

When I was pregnant, birth didn't scare me, breastfeeding did. My logic was one way or another they were going to get this baby out of me and I would only have to endure anything horrible for a short period of time, whereas, I was expected to breastfeed for a MINIMUM of three months. The thought terrified me and grossed me out all at once – I consider the word "suckle" one of the most disgusting words in the English language.

After having a good sleep and the drugs started to wear off, my son started to cry. Okay, no problem. Blue Lagoon! Although, it wasn't Blue Lagoon. This time it kind of hurt and as soon as he was finished he started crying again. Now, I suppose all women are wired to react when their child cries so they don't let them starve in a sock drawer somewhere but I can't express the surge of panic I had when he started to cry. It was like chewing tin foil with metal fillings. So I tried the other side, then back again. Now it was really starting to hurt. A nurse came in and asked me if I needed help and I said, as casually as I could "yes, please" and she proceeded to show me her version of the perfect way to latch a baby. In the two days I was in the hospital, five nurses showed me five different ways to breastfeed properly.

By the time I left the hospital I had five different versions of how to breastfeed, a tube system to attach to my breast to supplement feed formula because my milk hadn't come in and nipples that felt like a cheese grater had been used on them. I was warned not to use a bottle because my son would get nipple confusion and not to use the tube system for too long because he'll get used to that too. Then I was given a nice "Bye, bye now! Good luck."

Once I got home, I got a call from Public Health who automatically checks in when you come home with a baby to see if you're about to drink Drano. I told her about my breastfeeding troubles so she offered to come over the next day to help me out. She ended up showing me yet another way to feed him then proceeded to ask me a variety of questions including whether or not I was I afraid of being hurt by my husband who had at some point fallen asleep while sitting upright on the couch holding the baby beside me. Then she left. It still didn't get any better.

Finally on the third day my milk came in. I couldn't believe it. My body was actually producing food. It was like dispensing jelly beans out of my elbow. I was still in severe pain but at least my son wasn't crying constantly. So I decided to call Public Health again and see if they could tell me what was wrong with my latch. After all, everything I read said breastfeeding should never hurt. So the woman on the phone told me "No, it shouldn't hurt but you should expect an exquisite pain." Pardon? Exquisite pain? Is that like delicious death? No, I would just classify this as "pain pain". Not only was she useless, I now pictured this 50-something sadomasochistic nurse in a gimp outfit undoing her zipper-mouth to take calls from us frightened new mothers.

Finally, I went to see a lactation consultant at the hospital. I wasn't too keen on this as I had heard horror stories from friends about these breastfeeding nazis that essentially tell you to stop being such a damn baby and feed your child as nature intended so it doesn't die then slap a "breast is best" sticker on your head and send you home. I think I actually wore pajama pants to the appointment as this was day six of my living hell and I was looking like a worn out bowling alley whore.

She came in weighed my son and told me he was gaining weight then asked me to show me how I fed him. I whipped out my boob because, at that point, she was the only one in the free world who hadn't seen my tits. (On a side note, I think it's so unfair that when you're the most embarrassed about nursing it's when you're the least experienced at it so you have to strip down to your torso, use two hands and a pillow just to do it.) Anyhoo, she took a look and said "You're doing a great job. Your latch is perfect, you just need to get used to it. It's never easy in the beginning." Well, I felt like I just got a gold star sticker on my boob. I can't tell you the relief I felt to know that I was actually doing it correctly and that I just needed to get my boobs broken in. It took about 3 or 4 more days after that and the toe curling pain that went along with him first latching subsided and I ended up nursing him until he was around 16-months old. 16 MONTHS. Crazy non?!

The whole point of this post isn't to scare you. I'm just so pissed that most breastfeeding material kind of fails to mention the bumpy start that a lot of women have. It's a great way to feed your kid. Hey, I did it with both my kids but I don't think it's always a Blue Lagoon experience for everyone and women should be given the support they need if they are trying to get through those dark days to get to their very own Blue Lagoon even if it's just a Turquoise Puddle.

What do you think? Do you know if there is great post-natal support where you live? Let me know because I know this varies significantly depending on where you are. What are you going to do, bottle, boob or both?

MAJOR props to this woman who bf for 16 months! Thats awesome!
It was a different experience from years past when it was full of hustle and bustle and chaos. I got most of my shopping done 3 weeks before Christmas which is a first for me and it was so much more enjoyable. With me staying at home with Sawyer and Keith's month being slow, because that's how the month of December is in sales, I felt like we soaked up all of the Holiday as a family. Now that Sawyer is older and he can understand a little bit more, it made Christmas even more exciting.

We kicked off the month with the annual Christmas Party at Inverness CC hosted by Keith's cousins. We look forward to going to it every year for many reasons but this year the best part was skipping all the long lines at the mall to see Santa. He comes every year and even brings Mrs. Claus! We weren't quite sure how Sawyer would react to Santa so we tried not to have too high of expectations. Well, he wasn't a fan...That's ok, we will look back on this picture one day and laugh.

A few weeks later, we went to Keith's cousin's Engagement/Tacky Christmas Party. If anyone knows Keith, they know how much he gets into dressing up and this was no exception. He went to several thrift stores to see how ugly he could make us and I think he did a pretty good job! We had a really good time and it was great to celebrate Weezie and Bryan's Engagement.

We are so thankful to God for this blessing. I found out rather early, 3 1/2 weeks, and the secret and excitement was killing Keith and I so we had to share the news with our family and close friends. Three long weeks later we had our first Doctor's appointment and ultrasound. What a miracle to see and hear a heartbeat at 6 weeks. Well, I didn't hear it but Keith and the US technician did and they had to convice me they did. Everything looked great and I was exactly how far along as I thought I was, and the due date is June 19, 2012.

A month later, we had another Doctor's appointment and US and it was unbelievable to see how much the baby had grown in just four weeks. The technician was very nice and I think she felt bad for me because I was by myself because Keith was sick so it lasted almost 15 minutes. I watched in amazement as the baby moved and kicked the tiniest little feet I had ever seen. I also got to see the umbilical cord, brain, and other body parts. The heartbeat was 162 and everything still looked good. Praise the Lord! They had to take six viles of blood and I had to get a flu shot so that part of the appointment wasn't too fun.

I was quickly reminded of what it is like to be pregnant again, especially the first trimester woes. Overall I can't complain too much but I have certainly had more nausea and mood swings this time. I really really hope that I don't gain as much weight as I did with Sawyer so that I may have a chance to have a VBAC. We'll cross that bridge when we get there....And, the old saying that you start to show faster the second time around is very true! I swear that I started showing the minute I saw a positive sign on the pregnancy test. Oh well, I'm enjoying the comfortable maternity jeans and the look on people's faces when I tell them I'm due in June!Lindsey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17019678596295068929noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120417539193958576.post-78504976406698559312011-11-01T19:01:00.000-07:002011-11-01T19:13:42.449-07:00Halloween FestivitiesWe celebrated Halloween BIG this year! Three days in a row as a matter of fact so we are t-i-r-e-d! We started out going to a Halloween Party at Keith's co-worker's house on Saturday night. There were costumes off all kinds and lots of fun toys that Sawyer got to play with. And yes, Ice the American Gladiator made another appearance after being in early retirement three years ago.

On Halloween night, we had the Scott's over for some Taco soup and trick-or-treating. Unfortunately, I dropped my camera on Sunday night so I had to borrow some pics that Aunt Kiki sent me. After eating dinner, we walked around the neighborhood to do some t.o.ting and then we came back to our house to hand out candy to the kids. This was by far Sawyer's favorite thing to do. Every time the door bell would ring, he would go running to the door and give the kids candy in their sacks.
